Location
Located in the Western Lake District valley of Wasdale in Cumbria. The camp site is set in a woodland clearing with spectacular views looking onto the Screes mountain range.
Accommodation & Facilities Touring
Church Stile is a fully equipped camping site with all the modern amenities you would expect from a well kept camping ground including full disabled access throughout the shower block. Low level lighting around the site makes the grounds safer to use during the hours of darkness. There is a joint family room available with baby changing facilities. Laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities. Use of a freezer is free.
Family
There is a children's play area, a separate flat grassed area for football and other ball games and picnic tables.
Directions
From M6 at Junction 40 (Penrith) and follow A66 to Keswick. Continue towards Cockermouth. At Cockermouth, turn left towards Egremont on the A5086. Then follow signs for Barrow on the A595 to Calder Bridge then take the left through Gosforth following the signs for Wasdale and then Nether Wasdale. When you enter the village, go past the two inns and Church Stile Farm is on your left.
Local Activities
Wasdale Head is the birth place of British mountaineering, making this an excellent base to start your day out. There is superb walking and climbing in the immediate area. Wasdale head leads to Great Gable and Scafell Pike, or there are other trails leading over to the Barrowdale and Langdale fells. Muncaster castle is only 5 miles away. This has a owl centre, mole maze, tea rooms and beautiful gardens which along with the castle itself which is open to the public and often has exhibitions and displays. The La'al Ratty, a famous narrow gauge steam railway, is also nearby, offering rides through the beautiful Eskdale valley towards Ravenglass, a quintessential seaside village. Horse riders of all ages and aptitude are also welcome at the Murthwaite Green Trekking Centre in Silecroft, which offers family rides, fell and beach gallops, and free use of riding helments which meet the highest standards of safety.
